Since being established in 1995, Golf Leisure Breaks has not only handled golf holidays for tens of thousands of golf tourists, but through it's regular stableford competitions, has provided opportunities for many resident golfers to enjoy competitive golf at affordable prices. The twelve years' experience of working with both visiting and resident golfers has given Golf Leisure Breaks a unique insight into the direction which Costa del Sol golf tourism has taken and should take in the future.
Ironically, the huge success enjoyed during the period 1995 - 2004 has brought it's own problems for the longer established golf clubs, as it encouraged investment into yet more golf course construction and the consequent competition to attract green fees.
Since golf has been one of the main attractions to the thousands seeking holiday homes, or a new life in warmer climes, the Costa del Golf is now home to thousands of new residents, many of whom look for an opportunity to play golf on a regular basis, but find the cost prohibitive for six months of the year. Yet the arrival of thousands of disillusioned resident golfers could provide a solution to golf clubs which can no longer fill their fairways. Only a few years ago, club membership was actively discouraged at many golf "clubs", on the grounds that members would be reducing the number of pay & play start times. The good news for frustrated resident golfers is that the logical solution for struggling golf clubs is for them to open their doors to new members, offering conditions similar to those which they have enjoyed in their home countries.
However, this is not going to happen in the immediate future, but there is an alternative. Golf Leisure Breaks has formed it's own golf society, aimed at full-time resident golfers who will have a choice of five competitions each week, mostly with reduced green fees. The five venues available offer a wide variety of choices, with green fees varying from only 25€ at the 9 hole Magna Marbella course to only 57€ at the Royal Málaga Golf Club (public green fee normally 71€) and 70€ at Santa Maria, instead of 75€. Many green fees will be reduced during December and January, as well as during the summer months, but strong society membership will enable Golf Leisure Breaks to negotiate even more favourable rates for it's members. Membership costs a mere 30€, which includes a quality logo'd polo shirt, worth 45€. For more details, call Julie on 952 582 943. |
