Up there with the best....

Calanova is managed by Aymerich, a golf management company which looks after 22 courses in Spain and 60 projects worldwide.

Calanova Golf Club only opened it's doors to the public on May 1st. last year, but already it has become one of the more popular courses on the coast. This is partly due to a realistic high season green fee of 70€, which includes a shared buggy, but more pertinently because it is already a very fine golf course. The first impression is of a very hilly golf course. In fact, most of the fairways are level and wide, encouraging use of the driver from many tees. There are some steep hills, due to the nature of the terrain, but these are all from green to tee - hence the inclusion of buggies in the green fee. The real challenge at Calanova is to hit the right part of the greens with approach shots. The greens are large, slick and undulating, making downhill putts very tricky. The golf club is managed by Aymerich, a golf management company which looks after 22 courses in Spain and manages more than 60 projects worlwide. The course was designed by Aymerich course architect Julian García Mayoral, who is to be congratulated on an imaginative layout which offers a fair challenge to golfers of all standard.

Although the club expects to welcome it's fair share of golf tourists during the next few years, the ultimate aim has always been to present Calanova as an elite members' golf club and to be recognised as one of the top five course on the Costa del Golf. To this end, construction of a new 1,800 square metre clubhouse is due to commence shortly and golf shares are already available. Members at any of the Aymerich courses enjoy privileges at all the courses which they manage, by means of a members' silver card; so a share at the Calanova club will immediately allow substantially reduced rates at El Chaparral, Cabopino and Alhaurin, as well as many other courses in Spain.

To try the course for yourself, why not enter one of the regular Friday REM/Golf Leisure Breaks com-petitions, which are open to allcomers. Details of these and other competitions are available elsewhere on this page.
