La Cala Resort, which already hosts the annual european ladies tour qualifying school, seems to attract the ladies. Last weekend, it was the turn of the Spanish International Lady Junior Championship. While not quite in the same league as the European Tour event at Aloha, this event showed what a wealth of talent there is in the junior ranks of women's golf. These young amateurs played two rounds of stroke play, from which the leading 32 qualifiers entered the match-play stage of the championship. No less than six of the girls equalled or bettered par on the tricky North course, while in the final, Spain's Teresa Puga was only one-over-par when she lost 3/2 to the champion, Julie Greciet from France, who by then was four-under-par, having eagled the fifteenth hole. Julie also qualified with a three under par total during the qualifying stage, so she will no doubt be returning to La Cala later this year to try for her card on the ladies european tour. We wish this talented young lady lots of luck. |
