Many disappointed ex-pat golfers will testify to the fact that their dream of retiring to the Costa del Golf and playing regular golf was dashed, due to the high cost of a round of golf during the winter months. For some who could afford it, purchasing a share in a golf club is the answer to joining to club membership, although it could hardly qualify as a wise long-term financial investment. So for those on limited incomes, the recent proliferation of golf societies, usually organised by bar owners as a means to attract golfers to their bar, provide a way to enjoy a competitive round of golf now and then. These days, as the number of visiting golfers is spread thinner with the opening of so many new courses, many golf directors are now willing to offer special deals to anyone who can promise to bring a dozen or so golfers on a fairly regular basis.
All well and good - all that's missing is variety of venue and choice of which day to play.
WHERE AND WHEN - YOU CHOOSE
To remedy the situation, Golf Leisure Breaks will be setting up its own golf society, which will enable golfers to play any day from Monday through to Saturday, with a choice of any of these great golf courses:- Santa Maria (Mondays), El Chaparral (Tuesdays), Parador (Wednesdays), Greenlife Par 3 (Thursdays), Calanova (Fridays) and Cabopino (Saturdays). There will be no joining fee and members will enjoy the lowest green fees available and compete for some great prizes, as well as the traditional sweepstakes. Quality society polo shirts will be available at cost price to members. Summer & winter leagues are also on the agenda. Start times are pre-booked at each course throughout the year, so opportunities to play will be unlimited. THE US OPEN
The real question was "Who will win - Tiger Woods or his first child?" Woods was so determined to be present at the birth of his first child that he vowed he was prepared to miss even the US Open or The Open at Carnoustie in order to be there. Mrs. Woods solved his delimma by delivering the goods a couple of days after her husband failed to on the Oakmont course. Once again, the course was set up to humiliate the world's best golfers, so much so that even Tiger Woods failed to break par, his total of five over losing to Angel Cabrera's four over.
