Over 600 golfers are hoping that they have written their names into the Guinness World Records for the highest number of golfers in a single competition in one day.
More importantly this event raised 13,000 pounds sterling for UNICEF, which will be used to alleviate the suffering of children in Iraq and in refugee camps in Jordan and Syria. The event took place on Sunday, July 22nd and the official prize-giving on Friday, July 27th at the Hotel La Cala. The event was organised together with Mijas Town Hall and with the support of: the Patronato de Turismo Costa del Sol, Turismo Andaluz, Promotur, AEHCOS, AESGOLF and the golf federations of Andalucia and Madrid. Other collaborators included; Diario Sur, Halcón Viajes, the Mijas Hippodrome and Evian.
The winning team was: Benjamin López Caballo, Ernesto Jiménez and Manuel Huertas who amassed a total of 123 points.
Look out for another Charity event in September when Golf Leisure Breaks along with other sponsors will be offering a special competition for local charities. Watch this space!
On a very sad note the death of a very enthusiastic golfer was announced this week. Mike Reid that well known actor and entertainer died suddenly from a heart attack. Golf Leisure Breaks along with many others remember him with fondness as he helped us in the past by presenting prizes at several of the Charity events we have organized. One particular prize giving was for the Variety Club at Villa Tiberia, see photo of a very happy Mike Reid. He will be missed. |
