Resort Golf

Most northern European countries have emulated the British model when it comes to setting up golf clubs. That is to say, the majority of golf courses have a permanent membership and tend to be non-profit making. Club golf is relatively inexpensive, costing around 1,000€ annually for members, while visitors' green fees are welcomed in order to keep members' subs as low as possible. Resort golf on the other hand, is a completely different animal. Resort courses are strictly commercial and designed to attract holiday golfers. Even within world golf tourism, the term resort golf has different interpretations. To north Americans, resort golf usually entails several golf courses, usually half-a-dozen or more, within a single complex comprising one or two hotels and all the amenities one would find in a small town. In Europe however, where things tend to be on a smaller scale, resort golf simply means holiday golf, which is to be found in golf destinations such as our own Costa del Golf, where there are more than 40 courses to choose from, but each individually managed.
