TRIP TO ANTEQUERA
Last weekend saw the first of many weekend trips to be organized by the Golf Leisure Breaks Golf Society for it's members.
Although the GLB Golf Society was only formed recently and the visit to the Antequera Golf Hotel and Golf Club was only arranged a few weeks ago, the first trip was an unqualified success. Members were collected by a coach provided by the hotel at several points along the Costa del Sol on Friday evening, arriving at the hotel in time for dinner. To make the golf more interesting, players competed for the Antequera Trophy, the winner being the golfer with the best aggregate stableford score over the two days. The cosmopolitan group, hailing from Zimbabwe, Sweden, England and Ireland hit it off immediately, as everyone enjoyed an excellent meal in the hotel. Pairings were arranged for the first round of golf at the excellent Antequera course, the players enjoying a buffet breakfast before being transported to the golf course for a civilized 11:40 tee off, while the non-playing members enjoyed a relaxing day taking advantage of the hotel's spa facilities, which included fitness and beauty centres, heated swimming pool, jacuzzi, hidromassage, turkish bath and sauna. New pairings were arrange over dinner on Saturday evening for Sunday's second round, with packed lunches being provided by the hotel. Most players improved their scores on the second day, benefitting from Saturday's experience, as Geof Hickinbottom defended his 6 shot lead after his fine play on the first day. He eventually increased his advantage to win the first Antequera Trophy.
The whole weekend was brilliantly organized, thanks largely to the splendid efforts of Julie at Golf Leisure Breaks and the Antequera Hotel, who made everyone feel welcome and provided 5 star service.
By popular demand, a second trip is being organized for late January. The GLB Golf Society already has more than thirty members, who can now choose from three Stableford competitions each week, at Santa Maria G.C., The Royal Málaga Golf Club (Parador) and the Calanova G.C. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays respectively, with a further event being considered on Saturdays, for those members whose working hours preclude playing golf on weekdays. Anyone can join the golf society for a mere 30 euros and will receive free a quality polo shirt worth 45 euros.
The return visit to Antequera in January costing will be limited to 20, with 12 places already reserved, so members should book now to be sure of a place.
