NO TIME FOR GOLF
While golf toursists often like to play every day during their visit (wouldn’t we all!), those of us who live and work here either cannot afford to write off most of the day to play golf, or can only play at weekends. So Golf Leisure Breaks are organizing two extra events to add to the four competitions already available. Each Tuesday, we will be teeing off at 11:00 am for 9 holes at the new course at Cerrado del Aguila, and on Saturdays at the Sta Clara Golf Club for a full eighteen holes. Both courses have become extremely popular, so start times at Sta. Clara will vary until we are able to reserve start times sufficiently in advance to guarantee starting at 11:00 am, which seems to be the most popular time, especially for those who like to enjoy a few jars on Friday evenings.
The Cerrado del Aguila course is one of the newest on the coast, and will soon become a full 18 holer. If the new nine holes are as good as the first nine, this will be one of the best courses this side of Marbella. On a recent visit, I found the layout to be interesting and the course to be in excellent condition, with wide fairways and large greens. The competitions will be over by 1:30 – 2:00pm, leaving time for other activities. The first event takes place on Tuesday 15th April and the cost of entry will be 45 euros, which includes green fee and buggy, and the chance to win some great prizes. To get to Cerrado del Aguila, take the turning from the N340 opposite the castle at Fuengirola towards the race course. The entry to the golf club is just before the entrance to the Cerros de Aguila urbanization.
Sta Clara Golf Club, situated behind the Costa del Sol hospital, has reduced the cost of green fees substantially, and represents great value at 72 euros, including shared buggy. The first competition will be held on Saturday 12th April, starting at 1:20. Entry to each or both competitions should be made at least a couple of days in advance, so that we can confirm with the golf clubs the number of start times needed.
