he proliferation of golf societies on the coast in recent times has come about because of the lack of affordable access to regular golf for those who live and work here. Most golf societies are affiliated to bars located in different towns which provide a convenient meeting place for members and a convenient source of income for the bar owner. The greater the number of regular active golfers in any society, the greater the chance of the society being offered attractive green fees by golf clubs feeling the pinch and wishing to fill the empty fairways. Most of these societies tend to arrange one meeting each week or month, usually at the same golf course.

The Golf Leisure Breaks Golf Society is a little different. It is organized by Golf Leisure Breaks S.L., a long-established golf tour operator which already enjoys the best green fee rates on offer at more than 50 courses along the Costa del Golf. Furthermore, Golf LB has pre-booked start times four or five days of every week, so that its members enjoy a wide choice of courses and days on which to play. Many shrewd golfers already enjoy the advantage of belonging to more than one society and membership of the Golf LB Golf Society offers unprecedented variety without affecting existing societies and with no extra cost. The society already has more than fifty members, many of whom are regular visitors, but more resident golfers are sought to provide that club feeling which all ex-pat golfers miss. Golf Leisure Breaks are setting up a league, the winner of which be the "Club Champion" and negotiations are afoot to arrange matches with a team from the Algarve (home & away) and with visiting golf societies.
