No such thing as a gimme!
The Valle Romano Andalucian Open was a great success for it's joint promoters, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño
Lee Westwood duly won a tournament for the first time since 2003 by holing a 40 foot putt for his par on the18th. green at Aloha Golf Club. In fact, he had two putts for the win, but had already 3 putted twice on the back nine, in addition to missing a 3 footer for an eagle on the par 5 16th., so his relief at not leaving himself another teaser for the title was tangible. The event itself, the Valle Romano Andalucian Open was a great success for it's joint promoters, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño, although the former looked somewhat shell-shocked when his casual attempt to knock in a putt of some 6 inches resulted in a penalty stroke when he stubbed his putter into the ground. Now the regulars in our Golf LB stableford competitions know why we insist on all players holing out. If seasoned pros can miss from 6 inches, and Westwood can leave a 3 foot putt 5 feet beyond the hole, why assume handicap golfers will automatically hole out? Other than in matchplay, there's no such thing as a gimme!
